Dr. Rafael Sádaba graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of the Basque Country (Bilbao, Spain). He completed his training in Cardio-Thoracic Surgery at Leeds General Infirmary (Leeds, UK), East Yorkshire Hospitals (Cottingham, UK), and Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital
(Perth, Australia), during which he obtained a Master’s Degree in Science from the University of Leeds.
He earned his PhD from the Public University of Navarra for research on degenerative aortic valve disease. Dr. Sádaba also holds an Executive Master’s degree in Management of Health Care Organisations from ESADE Business School (Madrid, Spain) and Georgetown University McDonough School of Business (USA).
He currently serves as President of the European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery (EACTS), Chief of Cardiac Surgery at Navarra University Hospital, and Associate Professor of Surgery at the Public University of Navarra (Pamplona, Spain). Additionally, he is Area Coordinator for Cardiovascular and Renal Diseases at the Health Research Institute of Navarra (IdiSNA). His research focuses on surgical pathology of heart valves.
