Dr. Kay-Hyun Park graduated from Seoul National University College of Medicine in 1987 and underwent thoracic and cardiovascular surgery resident training in the same university hospital till 1992. After serving the Korean Army for 3 years, he started his professional career at Samsung Medical Center in 1995 as a staff cardiovascular surgeon. In 2002, he stayed at Baylor College of Medicine of Houston, Texas for 1 year and studied aortic surgery with the mentoring by Professor Joseph Coselli. After working in Samsung Medical Center for 10 and half years, he moved to Seoul National University Bundang Hospital (SNUBH) in 2005 as the director of cardiovascular surgery. He got tenured professor position in the Seoul National University College of Medicine in 2012. From 2013 to June 2016, he served as the Chairman of the Department of thoracic and cardiovascular surgery in SNUBH.

With his professional interest covering all aspects of adult cardiac surgery, the major academic and research interest focused on the aortic surgery since late 1990’s. He has performed more than 5,000 cases of major cardiovascular operations (about 50% of them are aortic procedures), co-authored two textbooks, published more than 100 articles in scientific journals, and has been actively participating in major societies of cardiothoracic surgery. He has given lectures as an invited speaker in all of the three most prestigious societies of cardiothoracic surgery, i.e., the American Association for Thoracic Surgery, the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, and the European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery. He has been holding a biannual international meeting called “Bundang Aortic Surgery Symposium” since 2008 and, in 2023, hosted the 31st Annual Meeting of ASCVTS in Busan, Korea as the Congress President.
