Hiroyuki Okita is the Chief of the Cardio-Aortic Center at Takatsuki General Hospital in Osaka, Japan. He graduated from Kobe University Medical School in 1978 and completed surgical training at Tenri Hospital, Nara, Japan, the National Heart Hospital in London, UK (1986), and the University of Alabama, Birmingham, USA (1989).

Dr. Okita served as a staff surgeon at Tenri Hospital from 1987, moved to the National Cardiovascular Center in Osaka in 1993, and was promoted to Professor of Cardiovascular Surgery at Kobe University in 1999.

His clinical expertise focuses on thoracic aortic surgery and adult cardiac surgery. Dr. Okita has held numerous leadership roles, including Congress President of the 40th Japanese Society for Cardiovascular Surgery (2010), the 68th Japanese Association for Thoracic Surgery (2015), the 30th Asian Society for Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery (2022), and the 1st STS-ASCVTS Aortic Summit (2024). He served as President of the Japanese Association for Thoracic Surgery from 2015 to 2019, Editor-in-Chief of General Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery (2011–2019), and is currently Editor-in-Chief of the Asian Cardiovascular and Thoracic Annals since 2019.
