Bio:
I received my accreditation as physician from the Catholic University in Rome in 1993. Then, I obtained the specialty training degree in both Pediatrics and Cardiology. I did my fellowship in pediatric cardiology at Necker Enfants Malades in Paris from 1996 to 1998. From 1998 to 1999 I was consultant in pediatric cardiology as Chef-de-Clinique at Necker Enfants Malades under the direction of Prof Kachaner and Prof Bonhoeffer. In 2000 I moved to Milan where I worked as Consultant at Policlinico San Donato until 2018. In 2018 I moved to London where I took the role of Lead Consultant of the Department of Congenital Interventional Cardiology at St Thomas/Evelina Hospital in London between 2018 and 2020. I have been Senior lecturer at King’s College University London between 2018 and 2022. In 2021 I moved to Bambin Gesù Hospital IRCCS, Rome, Italy, as Director of the Department of Interventional Congenital Cardiology and Director of Research Unit on Pediatric Cardiology.
I have been Visiting Professor at various universities including Harvard, Bordeaux, Cincinnati, Bejing and Padova. I am member of many scientific associations including AEPC, Italian Society of Pediatric Cardiology, ESC, AHA, PICS, SCAI. I have been also deeply engaged in international humanitarian work in different countries including Cameroon, Peru, Egypt, Albania.
My clinical and research interests are focused on interventional cardiology in children and adults with congenital heart disease. I authored more than 250 papers in peer-reviewed journals and has edited 5 books on interventional and fetal cardiology (two of these books have been translated in Chinese). I have served as Chairman of the WG between 2008 and 2011. I am Director of the World PICS Early Career Academy Fellowship program and Board Director or Co-Director in the most important international meetings in Congenital Interventional Cardiology as PICS, CSI, AEPC, World Congress Pediatric Cardiology. Recently I developed the application of self-expanding platforms for PPVI in Europe, transcatheter treatments in very small and premature babies, percutaneous therapies of atrioventricular valves in patients with congenital heart diseases.
I have served as secretary of the WG of Interventional Cardiology between 2023 and 2026.
