Andreas Martens is the Director of the Clinic for Cardiac Surgery at Klinikum Oldenburg and Professor of Cardiac Surgery at Carl von Ossietzky Universität Oldenburg.
He is actively involved in professional and research organizations, serving on the Committee for Training and Education and the Committee for Aortic Surgery of the German Association for Thoracic, Cardiac and Vascular Surgery (DGTHG). He has been a member of the Scientific Advisory Committee of the Aortic Association in Zürich, Switzerland from 2020 to 2024 and has served as Secretary of Scientific Affairs since 2024. Dr. Martens is also an Editorial Board Member of Zeitschrift für Herz-, Thorax- und Gefäßchirurgie and holds memberships in the DGTHG, the German Association for Cardiology (DGK), the European Association for Cardiothoracic Surgery (EACTS), and the Deutscher Hochschulverband.
His clinical and research interests focus on aortic surgery, complex cardiac procedures, and innovations in surgical practice. He has received multiple academic distinctions, including the Ethicon Award from the DGTHG in 2023 for his work on insufficient reimbursement for complex aortic arch procedures and the Ideenpreis StartUP Impuls in 2009 for developing a navigation model for cardiac surgery.
