Martin Grabenwoger attended the University of Vienna Medical School where he also undertook his research fellowship. From 1991-1996 he completed his training in general and cardiac surgery at the University of Vienna (Prof. Dr. E. Wolner). In 1998 he was Associate Professor of Surgery and in February 2001 visited the Bayler College of Medicine, Houston (Prof. J. Coselli). Since October 2004 he has held the position of Head of the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery, Hospital Hietzing, Vienna. From October 2014 to October 2015, Martin Grabenwoger was President of the European Association of Cardiothoracic Surgery. In 2019 his department moved to a newly built hospital in Vienna and is now called Clinic Floridsdorf.
