Joseph Bavaria is the Chair of the Department of Cardiac Surgery and Executive Director of the Bruce and Robbi Heart and Vascular Institute at Jefferson Health in Philadelphia. He also holds the Anthony E. Narducci Professorship in Surgery at Sidney Kimmel Medical College.
Dr. Bavaria has held prominent leadership roles in the field of cardiothoracic surgery, including serving as the 52nd President of The Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) and as President of the Thoracic Surgery Foundation (TSF). He is currently Treasurer and Executive Committee Member of the European Association of Cardiothoracic Surgery (EACTS).
His clinical interests focus on thoracic aortic surgery, heart valve disease, and thoracic aortic endovascular repair (TEVAR). Dr. Bavaria has performed over 11,000 open heart procedures and is the author of approximately 600 original manuscripts, reviews, and book chapters. He also holds multiple patents.
